CONFIRMED! Jan Vertonghen signs new Tottenham contract

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has signed a new contract, the Premier League club __have announced.

The deal will see the Belgium international stay at White Hart Lane until at least 2019.

Vertonghen has been in negotiations since the end of last season and his new contract extends his commitment to Spurs by a year.

The 29-year-old moved to White Hart Lane in July 2012 from Ajax and has become a key figure under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

“I was very happy to sign a new contract,” said the centre-back.

“I was extremely happy and it was a big relief.

“The future looks great for Spurs, this is probably the strongest quad I’ve ever played in. It’s an unbelievably talented group of guys and I feel privileged to be part of that.

“There’s a great buzz around Tottenham and I can’t imagine playing somewhere else at the moment.”
