Former Middlesbrough midfielder George Boateng had told talkSPORT Jose Mourinho was ‘disrespectful’ for not shaking Steve Agnew’s hand following Manchester’s United’s victory at the Riverside.
Mourinho snubbed the new Boro boss – overseeing his first game in charge following Aitor Karanka’s departure – by running straight down the tunnel in celebration of Antonio Valencia’s late strike in a 3-1 win, jumping for joy and pumping his fists as he left the pitch.
Sunday’s result was an important one for United, who continued their surge up the table up into fifth place and extended their unbeaten run to 18 Premier League games, while it also left Boro still in danger down in 19th.
But Boateng was unimpressed by Mourinho’s antics.
Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the former Boro star said: “I saw that Jose left the bench a bit early - that wasn’t nice for Agnew.
“It’s his first game in charge and it would __have been nice just to stay and shake his hand.
“Everyone knew it was his first time in charge of the team, so he shouldn’t __have walked off, it was a bit disrespectful.
"Jose probably would say they talked about it afterwards in the manager’s room, but that’s not what the world sees, that’s not what we see.
“I know Jose always leaves the pitch a bit earlier, but on this occasion I thought it was a bit odd.”
