Arsenal FC news: 'I wouldn’t trust Arsene Wenger with £10 to buy me a good sandwich, let alone a world-class player' - Piers Morgan

Arsenal FC news:

Piers Morgan has slammed Arsene Wenger for putting together the worst Arsenal team he has seen since 2006 and has called for the Frenchman to call time on his reign in north London.

The controversial Arsenal fan even says he would not trust the French manager 'to buy me a good sandwhich, let alone a world-class player'.

Morgan's latest rant came on talkSPORT after the Gunners lost 3-1 at West Brom, sliding to sixth in the table, as the pressure grows on Wenger to leave the club in the summer. Two planes were even flown over the Hawthorns, one carrying a banner protesting against Wenger, the other one backing him.

His contract is due to expire but reports on Monday suggested the 67-year-old is ready to sign fresh terms at the Emirates.

But Morgan is not happy with the way Wenger is tarnishing his legacy, having won three Premier League titles and six FA Cups during his time at the club.

The journalist and Arsenal fan told Adrian Durham and Darren Gough on Drivetime: "This is the guy who just spent £35m on Mustafi and Xhaka, right? I wouldn’t trust Wenger now – and it is tragic to say this – I wouldn’t trust him with £10 to buy me a good sandwich, period.

"Wouldn’t trust him to buy me a sandwhich, let alone a world-class player. Nor do I think the really top guys would be interested in playing for him, we are not going to be in the Champions League next year - his great Champions League record which, by the way, he has never won."

“It’s a joke, absolute joke. Leicester City – Leicester City – beat us in the Premier League when it was supposed to be our season. Leicester City __have just gone further in the Champions League than Arsenal.

“At what point do Arsenal fans wake up to the fact Wenger’s excuses are now utterly ridiculous and he is making our club look utterly ridiculous."

Wenger has a proud record of leading the Gunners to a top-four finish in every season since taking over from Bruce Rioch 20-and-a-half years ago.

But, that achievement looks in serious threat as they face severe competition with just 11 games to go.

Morgan said: “I want to be an Arsenal fan that sees us back where we used to be.

“Let’s stop this other myth of ‘be careful what you wish for’ and ‘what are we going to get?’ and ‘how do we beat a guy with this record?’

“How do we beat a guy who hasn’t won the league in 13 years? That has not won the Champions League? How do we beat that guy when we __have money spilling out of our ears and a billionaire owner worth £10bn dollars?

“I’ll tell you how, put me in charge and trust me, you wouldn’t have players going on the pitch like they did at West Brom, behaving like Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who in the slow-motion replays, two of the most shameful footballers I have ever seen in an Arsenal shirt, were standing there as West Brom players steamed in and scored repeat goals in about 10 minutes of each other. Goals we had been warned about the day before.

“It was pathetic and shameful.

“I’m talking directly to Arsenal fans now. You’ve argued with me for years on Twitter: ‘Arsene knows’, ‘don’t be a traitor’ – no, you’re the traitors if you back this guy now. You are part of the problem. We need to have a manager who can take us back to the top again, it is not Arsene Wenger.”
