Aberdeen assistant manager Tony Docherty was "honoured" to be asked to help Scotland out in their next World Cup qualifier.
Docherty will replace Andy Watson for the crucial Hampden clash against Slovenia on March 26, and friendly against Canada four days earlier, after the former Dons midfielder took a job in Oman as technical director at the Al Habsi Football School.
"I'm very grateful to Derek and the club to allow me the opportunity," he said. "It is an absolute honour to be asked to represent your country and work with the backroom staff at Scotland, in particular Gordon Strachan, someone I __have the utmost respect for.
"I'm very excited and looking forward to it. It's an important match for the nation and I'll be looking to lend my experience and contribute as best I can to hopefully getting a win.
"I expect there will be a full crowd there, the old Hampden roar, and I will put my all into it to try and help the team as best I can."
