“Let’s play bowls!”
Jurgen Klopp celebrated his one year anniversary as Liverpool manager this week, and to mark the occasion he surprised some veteran Reds fans by joining them in a very special game of a very English sport.
The German was at his 'BOOM'-ing best, and proved again just what a legend he is, as he traded the football pitch for a bowling green.
Wanting to put another tick on his ‘bucket list of sports’, Klopp revealed he’d been intrigued by the sport ever since he saw it being played during a short trip to England as a teenager.
“I got interested in it when I was about 16 years old and I went on a two week school exchange in…err…Luton! I was watching the Commonwealth Games and I thought what the hell is this?"
So he wrote to a local bowling club asking for a game, which came as a surprise to many of their long-term Reds fans.
“We got an email from Liverpool Football Club, which was very hard to believe,” said club chairman, Eric. “But it was true! Jurgen Klopp wanted to __have a game of bowls with us – it was unbelievable!”
