Gazidis: ‘Arsenal is not Arsene Wenger’

Ivan Gazidis has suggested for the first time that Arsenal are planning for life after Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal boss Wenger celebrates 20 years in charge of the club this month, but the Frenchman’s contract expires at the end of the season.

A decision has yet to be made on his future and when prompted on the subject, the Gunners CEO Gazidis said: “Arsenal is not Arsene Wenger. They’re not one in the same thing.”

And Gazidis insists the two parties remain relaxed about the situation.

“He’s been clear and we’ve always been clear, that’s a mutual decision as to how long he’ll continue,” he added.

“Both need to be on the same page on that. In a football sense, he has transformed the club.”
