Paul Robinson was controversially sent off during Birmingham's 2-1 win over Wolves on Friday evening.
The Blues looked to be in control of the Sky Bet Championship contest at Molineux after first-half goals from Maikel Kieftenbeld and David Davis.
But they had to survive a late spell of pressure after being reduced to 10 men in the 53rd minute when Robinson was shown a straight red card.
The defender, 38, appeared to hit out at Jon Dadi Bodvarsson after sliding in on the Iceland international on the right touchline.
After consulting __with his assistant, the referee showed Robinson the 11th red card of his career on his 750th appearance.
Fortunately for the defender it did not cost his side any points as they held out for a 2-1 win to ease the pressure on manager Gianfranco Zola.
"I think it was a little bit harsh," Zola told Sky Sports when asked about the red card. "Because Robinson told me the man was grabbing his back and he just wanted to push his hand off. We'll have a look at it and see if we need to take action."
