Blackburn Rovers are still awaiting approval from the relevant authorities as to whether their attempt to bring in Celtic defender Efe Ambrose on loan has been successful.
Ambrose has been struggling for game time under the Brendan Rodgers regime in Glasgow and has made just two appearances this season - both in Champions League qualifiers in July.
Rovers, who already have Ambrose's former Celtic team-mates Anthony Stokes and Charlie Mulgrew on their books, were frustrated in their quest to get the deal for the Nigeria international ratified before the Tuesday night deadline.
The paperwork will now be assessed at the Football and Scottish League offices in Preston and Glasgow respectively to check that all is in order __with a final decision expected later on Wednesday.
Ambrose has won four Scottish league titles during his five years at Celtic, making over 150 appearances.
Meanwhile, Motherwell's 11th hour attempt to lure another out-of-favour Celtic player, Nadir Ciftci, to Fir Park proved unsuccessful.
