Jose Mourinho poured fresh doubt over the future of Chris Smalling after he refused to comment on the Manchester United defender during a pre-match press conference.
Mourinho seemed to criticise both Smalling and Luke Shaw earlier this month for not playing through the pain barrier after United’s 3-1 victory over Swansea.
However, when questioned about both players on Friday, the Portuguese coach gave a stern refusal to speak about Smalling but strangely commented that he has no issues __with Shaw.
“On Smalling you cannot ask, you have your sources and you believe what they tell you,” Mourinho told reporters.
“I don’t say a word about Chris Smalling, I won’t comment on your sources. I’m not interested on that.
“I can comment on him [Shaw], yes, he has worked really well and is ready to play, I don’t have any problem __with him.
“There are things he needs to learn but he is a player who has my confidence.”
