Former Manchester United star Ray Wilkins has hit out at Jose Mourinho's treatment of Luke Shaw.
Mourinho criticised the young full-back after he made his first appearance since January against Everton on Tuesday night, claiming he had to do all his thinking for him.
"He was in front of me and I was making every decision for him," said Mourinho. "He has to change his football brain.
"Twenty-one years old is old enough to __have a better understanding of the game."
It was the latest outburst Mourinho has aimed at Shaw, having last week accused the 21-year-old of lacking focus, ambition and commitment.
But, according to Wilkins, the United boss should lay-off the England international.
Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: "Jose, I think the world of you matey, but you are bang out of order.
"Just leave him alone. If you are going to bring him on and you are going to play him for Manchester United, then let him do what he does.
"If he is not good enough for you, then don't play him.
"Normally when a young man comes into the team, you want him on your side of the field so you can help him through the game. [But] Luke Shaw knows the Premier League inside out. He doesn't need that.
"Jose: leave him alone, let him do what he has to do and if he doesn't quite match up to your standard, then see if there is another solution."
