Mourinho doesn’t trust his players yet – Neville

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes Jose Mourinho is still struggling to find his best line-up and isn’t convinced the Portuguese coach trusts his players yet.

Questions are being asked of Mourinho’s management __with summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan only making one start this campaign, while Bastian Schweinsteiger – who has been recalled into the first-team squad – made to train __with the youth team.

The Red Devils have failed to win in their last four league games and currently sit in eighth place in the Premier League table, eight points off leaders Manchester City.

And Neville thinks a lack of consistency in selection is part of the reason for the lack on recent victories.

“At the moment you’re not quite sure that Jose Mourinho knows his best team and that he trusts his players fully yet,” Neville said, speaking on his Gary Neville podcast.

However, United had 37 shots in the 0-0 draw against Burnley over the weekend and Neville feels like the players are still fully behind Mourinho to turn things around.

“They had enough chances to win the game [against Burnley],” Neville continued.

“I think at the moment he’s the one that’s getting put under pressure, but nothing that two or three wins won’t change.

“I have to say I thought they deserved to win, they didn’t play badly at all. It wasn’t a ‘oh they’re not playing for him, they’re not with him’. There’s none of that.

“I think when he was at Chelsea there’s all that talk he’d lost the dressing room. There’s nothing like that happening at Manchester United.

“The players gave their all and deserved to win, but Burnley were resolute, resilient, blocked everything and they missed quite a few chances.”
