Manager Brendan Rodgers was absent from the pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's FA Cup tie at Crystal Palace - out of the country on 'club business' - but his assistant Colin Pascoe said the Anfield captain was struggling to shake off the problem.

"Unfortunately, he (Gerrard) felt his hamstring towards the end of the game and he is having a scan this morning and we are just waiting for results to come back," said the Welshman.

Forward Raheem Sterling missed the victory over the Londoners with a foot injury but Pascoe is hopeful he will be fit for the weekend trip to Selhurst Park.

"We are monitoring Raheem," he said. "He missed a game the other night but we will see how he is.

"Hopefully they will both be fit for the weekend and that the scans (on Gerrard) won't show too much. However, we do not have the results yet so I can't say too much."

And when quizzed further by the media on Rodgers' absence, Pascoe joked: "He had to get off sharpish after the game for a meeting in Europe. It is a club matter and none of your business."
