Conte committed to Italy

Antonio Conte has reaffirmed his commitment to the Italian national team amid reports he could step down after only six months in the head coach's job.

The former Juventus manager replaced Cesare Prandelli following the World Cup in Brazil and has since guided the Azzurri to three wins and a draw during their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

Reports from the peninsula have suggested the 45-year-old is already disillusioned with various aspects of his life as Italy boss, but Conte insists he will see out the two-year contract he signed in August.

"I find myself talking about a situation which is quite unique and unexpected," Conte told the Italian Football Federation's (FIGC) official website.

"I can only repeat what I have always said: I have started a process with the national team and I'm glad I have done so. This is a path that will take us to the European Championships where we hope to do well.

"Let us work together knowing that there will be big obstacles along the way, but also that we share great enthusiasm and desire to do something unexpected.

"I hope that from now on we can put an end to the question of whether or not I will reach the end of my contract.

"I will get there, whether certain people like it or not."

FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio added: "When it comes to Conte I'd like to renew his contract rather than tear it up.

"The money we've invested in him is an act of faith and hope in a person who we trust as our leader."

Conte, who guided Juve to three back-to-back Serie A titles between 2012 and 2014, served a four-month ban three years ago due to his failure to report match-fixing while in charge of Siena.

Reports in Italy suggest prosecutors in Cremona are preparing to bring fresh charges against 130 individuals, including Conte.
