The Bundesliga returned on Friday with one of the most stunning restuls of the season as Wolfsburg thrashed Bayern Munich 4-1 to keep their title hopes alive. Elsewhere, Dortmund's bid to stave of relegation continued with a credible 0-0 draw at Leverkusen, but other results saw them drop to the foot of the table. Here, Goal picks out the best players from the weekend across Germany.

In goal is Hannover's Ron-Robert Zieler, who may have ended up on the losing side against Schalke but was powerless to prevent the solitary goal and was the standout man throughout the clash.



Pierre Bengtsson could not have enjoyed a better start to his Bundesliga career as he slotted into the Mainz defence and played his part in a 5-0 victory over Paderborn, shining on his debut. Dortmund may have drawn but Mats Hummels put in his strongest performance of the season and saved his side's point with a brilliant block on the line. The back three is complete with Kevin Wimmer, who provided a solid base for Koln to come away with an excellent 2-0 win at Hamburg.

On the wing is Kevin De Bruyne, who paid tribute to the deceased Junior Malanda in the perfect manner, scoring twice in a famous 4-1 win for Wolfsburg over Bayern. Marco Hoger had a bittersweet day for Schalke, scoring the winner but subsequently getting injured, Yunus Malli netted twice in a brilliant Mainz performance and Marcel Risse is another Koln star to make the cut.

Franco Di Santo is the first of the strikers to be named after scoring twice in Bremen's 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin, Bas Dost got Wolfsburg off to a brilliant start on Friday with a first-half double and Nils Petersen went one better on his Freiburg debut, netting a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
