Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he is “completely against” the Ballon d’Or and insists he would decline the opportunity to vote for the world’s best player.

Cristiano Ronaldo won the award for the third time in his career on Monday after scoring 61 goals for club and country in 2014, while Real Madrid won their 10th Champions League trophy and the Copa del Rey.

The Portugal international, who also set a Champions League record by scoring 17 goals in the competition last season, received more than double the number of votes of Lionel Messi, while Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer narrowly finished in third place behind the Barcelona forward.

"I am totally against the Ballon d'Or, I am a team-lover,” said Wenger.

“I would not vote for anyone, I am completely against it."
