Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has warned his team-mates they must do eveything in their power to avoid a repeat of last year's Champions League debacle against Real Madrid.

The Bundesliga champions were beaten 5-0 on aggregate by Carlo Ancelotti's men in the semi-finals, with many citing a lack of focus after prematurely clinching the Bundesliga title as one of the main reasons for Bayern's disappointing performance against Madrid.

The Allianz Arena side are once again on their way to securing the domestic title at an early stage, holding an 11-point lead over second-placed Wolfsburg halfway through the season, and Neuer has stressed they cannot afford to let up this time around.

"We definitely have a comfortable lead in the Bundesliga. We enjoyed a great first half of the season, but we cannot afford to sit back and relax. We must keep going," Neuer was quoted as saying by AZ.

"I have not heard anybody say we can take it easy now in the league and then hit the gas again in the Champions League in April or May.

"We had plenty of time to prepare for the tie with Real Madrid last year as well... Real Madrid were clearly the better side in last year's semi-final. We must do everything to avoid a repeat of what happened then."

Bayern finished ahead of Manchester City, Roma and CSKA Moscow to book their ticket for the round of 16, where Shakhtar Donetsk await.
