Gary Johnson wants to keep goalkeeper Jed Steer until the end of the season after his heroics in Yeovil's 0-0 draw with Coventry.

The Aston Villa loanee stretched for Gary Madine's penalty on 52 minutes to help lift Yeovil off the foot of the table.

And Glovers boss Johnson thanked his Premier League-pedigree keeper who he says had done his homework in the lead-up to the game.

During a drab first half, the two sides who are scrapping at the wrong end of the table carved out just two efforts on target between them and it took the penalty decision to ignite the match.

The ref pointed to the spot when Frank Nouble darted around the outside of Seth Twumasi, who shoved the forward to the deck.

Johnson said: "In the second half we were the ones going for the result and they were the ones trying to hit us on the break which they did for the penalty and that was a good save by Jed.

"He does his homework with goalkeeping coach Gareth Stewart and they are very vigilant on penalties. There's a lot of psychological nonsense going on, but at the end of the day do us a favour and dive and save the ball and he did - he didn't have very much to do today but that was top save.

"He's a prospective Premier League goalkeeper, we're pleased to have him and hopefully we can keep him for longer.

Coventry manager Steven Pressley rued the "crucial" penalty miss and left Huish Park frustrated with his side's fourth league game without a win.

He said: "There were many good aspects for an away performance and the penalty was crucial. We countered with good speed, but when you get the penalty you have got to score.

"It was a decisive moment which you could tell by the reaction of their supporters it actually gave their side a lift, then after the penalty for 10-15 minutes and they had a little bit of momentum but we coped well with that and regained our rhythm.

"You can see that both sides at this moment in time aren't brimming with confidence which is understandable. Points like this, clean sheets, not losing helps add to that confidence.

"It gives us a foundation it gives us something to build on and I'm really pleased with the effort of the group, the desire of the group and the mentality and I'm very proud of them."
