The 26-year-old said the chance to play in the Champions League was a major reason why he left Swansea to join Manchester City.

The striker praised City boss Manuel Pellegrini, as well as his Ivory Coast teammate Yaya Toure, for helping him make his mind up about the switch from south Wales to the north-west.

Regarding Pellegrini’s influence, Bony told Sky Sports News HQ: “He told me ‘it’s the next step for you in your career and I think you will enjoy it.

“He said he’d been asking Yaya Toure about me, my character and everything, and that was also part of the reason for moving to Manchester City.

“And Yaya’s given me plenty of advice too.”

Regarding the prospect of playing in Europe next season, Bony added: “The Champions League is a competition I haven’t played in yet. I really want to feel it and enjoy it.”

“I want to be in the action, not watching it on TV.”

Bony, who joined City last week on a four-year contract, is currently in Equatorial Guinea with the Ivory Coast squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
