Gary Johnson has backed interim Yeovil boss Terry Skiverton to keep the Glovers in League One.
Terry Skiverton: Expected to keep Yeovil up
The 59-year-old's second spell at Huish Park came to an end on Tuesday with his sacking after defeat at Peterborough left them four points from safety and rock-bottom of the third tier.
Skiverton is currently in temporary charge under the title of acting manager 'until further notice' and Johnson is confident his former assistant, who previously managed the Glovers for three years before Johnson's arrival, and coach Darren Way have what it takes.
"The only people that could see it through would be Terry Skiverton and Darren Way," he told BBC Somerset.
"They know the players and which team will be the best team to play these two cup finals against Crawley and Crewe.
"If they went there'd be no hope. If they stay, we'll survive."
Johnson could not hide his disappointment at his exit, having led Yeovil into the Championship in 2013 for the first time in their history.
And he is certain he would have turned their campaign around if given time.
"I was ready, able and willing to see this through," he added. "There was still time. We'd made a conscious decision that we were going to get out of this.
"We needed that bit of time but it wasn't given. The chairman knew I was willing to stay and see it through.
"With 18 games to go they felt they needed to make that decision, which of course I was very disappointed with."
